Thanks Mike for dumpster diving for me. That is how you know you are loved. :) <br />
<br />
<br />
By the way, I have taken a huge break from blogging. I have had a neck injury and haven't been able to lift anything heavier than my purse. So the air compressor and miter saw were definitely out. I am feeling a little better and hoping to get back to projects. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJzOmmTVxItKQAIA1rxYZvJfrqtQuDzpVkzHE2ffxy7y5jT7-gRbF6b275U5Tj4KbYZN9t2psMK24Y6yArkPGyoK3m0grhku5ToIfrOiqSyAnvCFOAetqGvUR_7C5b9h5K4RDgMCpilu4/s1600/upstairs+before+and+after+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJzOmmTVxItKQAIA1rxYZvJfrqtQuDzpVkzHE2ffxy7y5jT7-gRbF6b275U5Tj4KbYZN9t2psMK24Y6yArkPGyoK3m0grhku5ToIfrOiqSyAnvCFOAetqGvUR_7C5b9h5K4RDgMCpilu4/s320/upstairs+before+and+after+004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhePr9ZGA2VnRENNdla1kdZCXiaP4DLCBamFUT5i59UVYU2mT8w7H9VRszYHA979mVEkq1GD7Jp1f8Yo_9DluXrVYNKtm43sYt104P4WT5ym3H-Q39WvG-_UJwkskczfhwrOP4IX-Q7zMk/s320/upstairs+before+and+after+003.JPG" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First I patched, primed and painted this room.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My son really wanted diagonal stripes. I wanted a room he could have for a while and not out grow. This is what we came up with. When I started this I really had no plan as far as width of stripes and how many stripes. If I did I would have changed it along the way. I do my best work with no plan. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I started by snapping a chalk line then masking it off with tape. Then measuring up 18 inches and masking another line. (If I had someone around to help I would have done less measuring and more chalk lines.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7DBks4sxTXfNIlyBAZrM9V6wRRv4h5ODX5AyYItz3ee6NsEIlToF_pd4IyReaEmS-N6Ytk9nJdhW0BSJO3fx5PfmeJtlN7gSQDq-ieyVutW0ruPOWrwG8X8Fp48i6gNFzMNUIxXO0scw/s1600/skylers+room+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7DBks4sxTXfNIlyBAZrM9V6wRRv4h5ODX5AyYItz3ee6NsEIlToF_pd4IyReaEmS-N6Ytk9nJdhW0BSJO3fx5PfmeJtlN7gSQDq-ieyVutW0ruPOWrwG8X8Fp48i6gNFzMNUIxXO0scw/s320/skylers+room+001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We have this weird wall in this room so I continued the stripes around this room. This was the trickiest part. It took three tries to get the angle right. I just went with what I felt looked right. My husband asked why I didn't figure it out mathematically. (How do you do that?)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0jQ87JXzd3ZNQL6ruB3RJYpo2L8xhO7MqbS5kKvSYmfgaCk33cu0ab3jiNQtYdj5wylD2DQG61waNiSGEloYx-RD6__PFjsTN7tzT0Lou58dt2R-ADMVIQSgyWaIIJjIBxSPZzd2EQMQ/s1600/skylers+room+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0jQ87JXzd3ZNQL6ruB3RJYpo2L8xhO7MqbS5kKvSYmfgaCk33cu0ab3jiNQtYdj5wylD2DQG61waNiSGEloYx-RD6__PFjsTN7tzT0Lou58dt2R-ADMVIQSgyWaIIJjIBxSPZzd2EQMQ/s320/skylers+room+002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoHQQgjJzuUiZRsE15I4P7Ah9y89yMKQO9rJrhTJVu9FMb-YfI0mGFu1skh5oN40WH-2WmEQoJKkNQPiHK-NQ_U1xW7B-1NJ4O4IXOLfcapQwI16KU79HuRK0E1psI8HUjz9EV5tyLSDE/s1600/skylers+room+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoHQQgjJzuUiZRsE15I4P7Ah9y89yMKQO9rJrhTJVu9FMb-YfI0mGFu1skh5oN40WH-2WmEQoJKkNQPiHK-NQ_U1xW7B-1NJ4O4IXOLfcapQwI16KU79HuRK0E1psI8HUjz9EV5tyLSDE/s320/skylers+room+004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDRVhROWsC590p8gDUERT6kmwS5hshTGhj0SOKda7HNNmxTOxdCSi3oZ90RwnjSdmjUnC1e1bP5KHTLQsejKAHxD57CBUXqhyKH9mUqrKkdC-IY3QDVlDwQubBruMzYnpN8xWoPCVUxA0/s1600/skylers+room+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDRVhROWsC590p8gDUERT6kmwS5hshTGhj0SOKda7HNNmxTOxdCSi3oZ90RwnjSdmjUnC1e1bP5KHTLQsejKAHxD57CBUXqhyKH9mUqrKkdC-IY3QDVlDwQubBruMzYnpN8xWoPCVUxA0/s320/skylers+room+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After that it is just a matter of masking and painting. I tried a few things to see what would give me the crisp lines I wanted. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I tried using a putty knife to press on the tape making sure it was sealed well. That helped a little but the line was definitely fuzzy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZIpi_6VUJ05EmE-rAERg7Ksc2jx8eKa10RfNDM6TAq-GAiywZ0C8pEfWfuJfJMeUBsUWbfBBIbf4tKq5kIj4NC6XO8lnAzlu1gT3Ph0_p-1o9IABDaURb0h2XiZZVZ6NNTtcIzCiQgmg/s1600/skylers+room+017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZIpi_6VUJ05EmE-rAERg7Ksc2jx8eKa10RfNDM6TAq-GAiywZ0C8pEfWfuJfJMeUBsUWbfBBIbf4tKq5kIj4NC6XO8lnAzlu1gT3Ph0_p-1o9IABDaURb0h2XiZZVZ6NNTtcIzCiQgmg/s320/skylers+room+017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Once I had a line on both sides I could use as a guide, I was able to use my Purdy brush and get a good line without tape. This saved a lot of time. I had to go slow but I didn't have to tape. I love my Purdy brush. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIT95UvQTplvIEM-mJ3C_7oyAsZ42kfbiBcbYk6-NUT1w7l4wvyLgGNSeErvaKhpZSgDsIeBWcHXOTu39MFDEMuVI-hxdAZQhFqFcQVBZ-kr18GSU-aW4pw_8x2H2w_uRhiRmcQp_fljU/s1600/skylers+room+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIT95UvQTplvIEM-mJ3C_7oyAsZ42kfbiBcbYk6-NUT1w7l4wvyLgGNSeErvaKhpZSgDsIeBWcHXOTu39MFDEMuVI-hxdAZQhFqFcQVBZ-kr18GSU-aW4pw_8x2H2w_uRhiRmcQp_fljU/s320/skylers+room+006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(The top is blue paint not blue tape)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A great tip for a crisp line is to mix a little caulk with water and spread it over the edge of the tape with your finger. Let it dry for a minute, then paint. This creates a great seal. Just be sure to remove the tape while the paint is still wet. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwK-7YPbSqdaIlgNB_w78MhPN58uOMRl7-CtbmNPl69KF7-IGXJyuBnCIvi_picj2hY3T1IKkzQ8ede4I00615AnV3HjXW15Cj34h8qDm24tJIcx1PTEPjmxOkz06xNH1RT5IOilBfD6Y/s1600/upstairs+bedrooms+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwK-7YPbSqdaIlgNB_w78MhPN58uOMRl7-CtbmNPl69KF7-IGXJyuBnCIvi_picj2hY3T1IKkzQ8ede4I00615AnV3HjXW15Cj34h8qDm24tJIcx1PTEPjmxOkz06xNH1RT5IOilBfD6Y/s320/upstairs+bedrooms+002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> This project was very fun but really time consuming. I think the stripes took me at least 12 hours to do. I would recommend convincing someone to help you. I tried to use paint I already had and mix paint together to make the colors I didn't have (I have a lot of leftover cans of paint). For this project I spent $14 on paint and $7 on tape. I feel it is a big impact for $21.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

YEA! There are some amazing projects (some I think I will copy) you should check them out. Winners announced next Monday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://thediyclub.com/calendar-of-events-2/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DIY Club"><img alt="DIY Club" height="125" src="http://thediyclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/monthlydiyprojectparty-button-300x300.png" width="125" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div align="center"><div style="text-align: left;">I have also been featured over at Apartment Therapy, Sarah Rae Trover wrote this wrote this about our hanging bed</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">It's no secret that we have a love for hanging beds. The idea of our kids not being able to shove their toys and dirty clothes under them is almost more thrilling than date night. This one makes a big statement, could hold an entire slumber party in the air and we're 100% completely in love and in awe of the handiwork!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF0uPUkpAicv9JuMPBq6TsZtAtF4O7LqsCVhFnLzqUK7L343dzgP5ggFucTaQq6ZJpl6zxlXarrM8OEfzwHLfoNN6cqdtT894Sb35FnraU6f3Q4Ws8XNR-6bFFN_De55z96iD6jXsa_PA/s1600/halloween%252Cpinewoodderby%252Cbedrooms+076.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF0uPUkpAicv9JuMPBq6TsZtAtF4O7LqsCVhFnLzqUK7L343dzgP5ggFucTaQq6ZJpl6zxlXarrM8OEfzwHLfoNN6cqdtT894Sb35FnraU6f3Q4Ws8XNR-6bFFN_De55z96iD6jXsa_PA/s320/halloween%252Cpinewoodderby%252Cbedrooms+076.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="more-meta" style="text-align: left;">You can find this totally rad creation over at <a href="http://sticksandstoneshomedecor.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-to-hang-bed.html">Sticks and Stones Home Decor</a>. We always appreciate parents who have a mission to create something awesome and seek inspiration from other sources to get the job done. For this project they examined the way swings are held up on front porches and went from there. <br />
They've been kind enough to share the entire project from start to finish and it's totally doable at home assuming you have a spare bed frame laying around and are handy with tools (or know someone who is). The cabling system is less daunting than you think and we whole heartedly give this diy dream room two thumbs up!</div><br />
<br />
Thanks Sarah<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">Had I known I was having company I would have finished the room and tidied up the picture a little. (When I wrote this post I only had 12 followers, mostly family and friends. I didn't know it would end up on site thousands of people read every day.) I wanted to get this post done quickly because I really, really want to win the DIY Club monthly contest. Have you seen the list of sponsor products. DIYers dream. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Thanks DIY club. This is a really fun. You made my day. </div><br />

When I was first married and living in a basement apartment, I would put a mason jar over a spider and leave it there until my husband got home to kill it. I just can't squish them or pick them up in a tissue. When I do I itch for hours and can't quit thinking about how it felt to squish that spider. (I know I need therapy.) When I had babies crawling on the floor I couldn't do the mason jar thing anymore for obvious reasons so my husband bought me a bug vacuum. It's really a kids toy, it sucks up the bug so you can look at it closely (why anyone would want to do that is beyond me.) Now I convince the neighbor kids that it would be really fun if they sucked the intruding spider up in the really cool bug vacuum and I promise them candy, or money, whatever it takes. <br />
<br />
So to my horror this morning, while washing the walls and ceiling in our master bedroom in preparation to paint, my hand went through the ceiling. I was so confused. It was as though there was no drywall in that part of my ceiling. I couldn't believe it. I saw this gray, thin, paper layered stuff in the hole. I couldn't figure out what it was. So I took a screw driver and poked in there a little and found this.<br />

A wasps nest. Apparently wasps when trying to expand their nests will eat through drywall. AHHHH. They had eaten all of the drywall, including the paper and the textured sheet rock mud. The only thing left was the paint. Thankfully the nest wasn't active and there were no wasps in there or I would have to put my house up for sale. I had my husband come home and drill out the nest. Now we have this.<br />

Diary of a Wimpy kid. This is the poster he proudly made.<br />

I am not sure that book is on the approved book list. Somehow Gumby, Living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome doesn't feel like a Newbery Award Winner. <br />
When we set out to do this project we had no idea how to make this happen. However, we figured it could be done. People hang porch swings all the time, we decided to look at how those are constructed and go from there.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is a picture of our plans (sorry the writing is so small)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglK05R0LcfP_FPzKlQuBvplpyN2FAnGWDnDyTmqh1zZt9JuD9o-6QptYx8Or8OMTjo4-SSjz1jUcH4y3cDqnDPgvd0auzx1Z87HG3yCurgJVmGwCK5EM1XD1d9QEYeczH6O2ZLqesNuwA/s1600/scan0007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglK05R0LcfP_FPzKlQuBvplpyN2FAnGWDnDyTmqh1zZt9JuD9o-6QptYx8Or8OMTjo4-SSjz1jUcH4y3cDqnDPgvd0auzx1Z87HG3yCurgJVmGwCK5EM1XD1d9QEYeczH6O2ZLqesNuwA/s400/scan0007.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I will walk you through it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We first started with a frame to attach to the ceiling. Kind of like a picture frame only on a slightly larger scale.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj4U59EJobfFr3q0a9u6MgKwh51A0gEtVgPW1CsvyOTTJc7oW09uXJRi9xDMdSAkXY_Og6iq6y4Kx9DGwv7XA2iCnv0CEt156NRCvOfzA0ZCC4Yk7ZEBMelHKtCgGZQ6O3m-5Drentxp0/s1600/basement+finish+carpentry+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj4U59EJobfFr3q0a9u6MgKwh51A0gEtVgPW1CsvyOTTJc7oW09uXJRi9xDMdSAkXY_Og6iq6y4Kx9DGwv7XA2iCnv0CEt156NRCvOfzA0ZCC4Yk7ZEBMelHKtCgGZQ6O3m-5Drentxp0/s320/basement+finish+carpentry+011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is just a huge rectangle, the same size as a twin bed, attached to the ceiling. We used 2x6's to make this frame. Our neighbor helped us with this part. He has an amazing wood shop but I think he might be in the Mormon Mafia or Witness Protection Program or something. He wouldn't let me take any pictures. He<i> claimed</i> he had to maintain a security clearance and he can't pop up on any Internet sites. (Whatever, I have a blog to do, what's more important:) Anyway, we routered the edges in his shop and then joined them together using an awesome tenon joinery system he had (ya, it's on my x-mas list). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9XTfwXow6HLEZ0dk7ftrQXlJChF3EV7BuxcMENaKKYEGsmBhVpea-xnCYDSBzKyNBwlLNDY7E9i1afaOduucrwdo9ZuTqQ-x0br-5LjAbbzL4hhEGrwmPAKr-1ZAwQWJBcyWL2KpJ9mQ/s1600/sept.+2010+%28whit+bday,+soccer%29+016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9XTfwXow6HLEZ0dk7ftrQXlJChF3EV7BuxcMENaKKYEGsmBhVpea-xnCYDSBzKyNBwlLNDY7E9i1afaOduucrwdo9ZuTqQ-x0br-5LjAbbzL4hhEGrwmPAKr-1ZAwQWJBcyWL2KpJ9mQ/s320/sept.+2010+%28whit+bday,+soccer%29+016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Before we attached the frame to the ceiling we attached the eye bolts to the frame. First we counter sunk a washer and a nut to the top side of the frame, the side that would go next to the ceiling. We drilled a pilot hole for the eye bolt. Then screwed it through the wood into the washer and nut.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then we added Gorilla Glue to hold the bolt tight. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx8YhF72Th4g8YFkqhUqNm3wcgTAcT-cP6-ZtX-3SSJtMt2ItOqXF4dfSR179wHSG_GMIQECbE0dU9Wjs0KW_jKbjedef5M0Zx1VvNUubRJjhKob_TU5Stbdk8I8u14mZKoZ17uhd3h8w/s1600/guitar,+blog+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx8YhF72Th4g8YFkqhUqNm3wcgTAcT-cP6-ZtX-3SSJtMt2ItOqXF4dfSR179wHSG_GMIQECbE0dU9Wjs0KW_jKbjedef5M0Zx1VvNUubRJjhKob_TU5Stbdk8I8u14mZKoZ17uhd3h8w/s320/guitar,+blog+005.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihq_mhThI2Tzdgy8Rj7b0kgaWx6V7XQxo7dnxPe3zFbttYLtfHUgGLg1HLV_3P0ZvJnF6F20AqSP6Fa7gs0aW35tmz7nJ4uHP68bYzU8MmablQg9Tf36C380JpxQOF9l1VAIZjiNp7Ng0/s1600/sept.+2010+%28whit+bday,+soccer%29+012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihq_mhThI2Tzdgy8Rj7b0kgaWx6V7XQxo7dnxPe3zFbttYLtfHUgGLg1HLV_3P0ZvJnF6F20AqSP6Fa7gs0aW35tmz7nJ4uHP68bYzU8MmablQg9Tf36C380JpxQOF9l1VAIZjiNp7Ng0/s320/sept.+2010+%28whit+bday,+soccer%29+012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
see the Gorilla Glue dripping <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then we sawed off the rest of the bolt with a hack saw.</div>
<br /></div>
Next we found all the ceiling joists with a stud finder and drew lines on our ceiling marking the joist. Ceiling joists are 16 inches apart on center meaning the center of one joist is 16 inches away from the center of the next joist. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq4jdSB_KK2_jtwiPNacQ_xgYNUT65BCJHL-FMGz91nwh-Fc9TrqOq2oEx2ccSZR6CkQ0TRIhYeKSOffDxSsZ_hJx59MfLtU2CMWemFxvjTZJPQAyVeiQoh9kb4IOMa3_kPbiUxeCA5Gc/s1600/frame+on+ceiling.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq4jdSB_KK2_jtwiPNacQ_xgYNUT65BCJHL-FMGz91nwh-Fc9TrqOq2oEx2ccSZR6CkQ0TRIhYeKSOffDxSsZ_hJx59MfLtU2CMWemFxvjTZJPQAyVeiQoh9kb4IOMa3_kPbiUxeCA5Gc/s320/frame+on+ceiling.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you look close you can see our pencil marks on the ceiling</div>
<br />
<br />
This is probably the most important step of the whole process. It must be secured to the<b><u> center</u></b> of the joist for this to be strong enough to hold this woman<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Z5-WdkIG2d1JgGj6i2OWw7J1OZ227Ky-MHwICerslTrIucMxm0sKoXIEzZAqm164CAJ_tzuj6s3hlekqqVEOn0GZVTh-VWrwTzA6ZBi3S-SjMEFmctXzuASq3Je4NU6XcvusUUL-cHA/s1600/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Z5-WdkIG2d1JgGj6i2OWw7J1OZ227Ky-MHwICerslTrIucMxm0sKoXIEzZAqm164CAJ_tzuj6s3hlekqqVEOn0GZVTh-VWrwTzA6ZBi3S-SjMEFmctXzuASq3Je4NU6XcvusUUL-cHA/s320/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+050.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
(oh wait that's me)</div>
<br />
We attached the frame to the ceiling with 16, 4-inch lag screws. We counter sunk the head of the screw <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
We puttied the holes.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I spray painted it black using Krylon spray paint in a satin finish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHnwuJjhm2_YlOZK3toLoM6hPaTQ9cnuSryzrekSoKsDJC1y4uf4iyiqj6ge0OIKB8exgDLTXfN_356Q9DYgnDTFYgagnyNYu6zdwIH1chdTyitFE16G-fHYb3TUvNs2fh2p4-7zSZDCI/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHnwuJjhm2_YlOZK3toLoM6hPaTQ9cnuSryzrekSoKsDJC1y4uf4iyiqj6ge0OIKB8exgDLTXfN_356Q9DYgnDTFYgagnyNYu6zdwIH1chdTyitFE16G-fHYb3TUvNs2fh2p4-7zSZDCI/s320/014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I know it would have been a lot easier to paint the frame before we installed it but I rarely do things the easy way. (I protected the ceiling with poster board.)<br />
<br />
I also think it would have been cute to add bead board to the center. But I had already added enough projects to the basement and marriage counseling is like $75 an hour, and this is supposed to be a<b> </b><b>thrifty</b> DIY blog.<br />
<br />
Next I made the bed. I used a 20+ year old bunk bed that we had lying around. I cut the legs off and added bead board to the head board and foot board, then just painted it with Krylon satin black spray paint. <br />
<br />
We attached eye bolts to the bed<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIybA2DHP80AJyvDy6qeGFq9h3D8UhbA68ir9Ilbgp6Phio58euWnjgtppkKmzIvvRpkJgfVDNvXsd0eqzkVP9Yjets9wwBv_owJ0Fx4VAvIJTFDwn7t5n3Rq_cY03dey3xfVAbHJMBAI/s1600/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIybA2DHP80AJyvDy6qeGFq9h3D8UhbA68ir9Ilbgp6Phio58euWnjgtppkKmzIvvRpkJgfVDNvXsd0eqzkVP9Yjets9wwBv_owJ0Fx4VAvIJTFDwn7t5n3Rq_cY03dey3xfVAbHJMBAI/s320/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+060.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
We used this Ferrule set to secure the cables that suspend the bed. The Ferrules are made from aluminum and you just squish them with a hammer around the cable.<br />

We used this quick link to connect the cable to the eye bolt just in case we need to move the bed for some reason.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And now we have this</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid9jsfOKoif_5bV8xcQyZw_9v-RcglbXPfYoa0T1vdL6an9CcyKQajf-CqTzITUW91yP7qhXaMNwG5TAr2su8zGDsCRVgt21wgHy70ZW_Jl-6dMhYFcOjJKEh3G3Jhlkcrp20E0DsYsN8/s1600/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid9jsfOKoif_5bV8xcQyZw_9v-RcglbXPfYoa0T1vdL6an9CcyKQajf-CqTzITUW91yP7qhXaMNwG5TAr2su8zGDsCRVgt21wgHy70ZW_Jl-6dMhYFcOjJKEh3G3Jhlkcrp20E0DsYsN8/s320/halloween,pinewoodderby,bedrooms+090.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This bed is strong. I would never let my daughter sleep on it if it weren't. Each cable holds 1500 lbs. My daughter is a tumbler and the bungee system at her gym is constructed very similar.<br />
<br />
Just a few details. The bedding is from Walmart.com, it is called, Twilight Garden, was $35.00 when we ordered it.<br />
Paint colors- We used Porter Paint, Silken Touch, the color is Hot Pink Kiss (this covered in two thick coats, not bad for pink) We used a gray primer underneath because this was new construction. The Gray walls are also Porter Paint, Silken Touch, the color is Flagstone. (We added a sparkle mix-in to the gray paint. The idea was to make it sparkle like Edward. Edward is fake and this didn't work. Don't waste your money.)<br />
<br />
We hope to finish the rest of the room soon. Thanks for reading and happy swinging!!<br />
<br />
I am linking this project up to the DIY CLUB monthly contest here's the link (and maybe a few other places.)<br />

I am warning you, don't do it. Or you will find yourself doing a project like this one. My daughters love to watch all those before and after shows with me and while sometimes it feels like I am raising my best buds, it can really get you into trouble. My daughter first saw a hanging bed on "That's so Raven" she knew she had to have one. (Never mind that the bed she saw was on a TV set who had professional carpenters on the payroll.) This is what we came up with. <br />
<br />
First the before ( I love "before and after" posts, but this is really a, "before and after so far" post, because this room is far from done.<br />

We just cut it down, added bead board to the head board and foot board and put it back together. (Notice the milk crate she is using as a stool to get up on this thing. Like I said before this room is far from done.) <br />
<br />

We are still working on our finish electrical and we went to install our doors and with the carpet and pad they are too long. We will have to cut them down. GRRR. I hope there is a YOUTUBE video for that.<br />

We painted it the same color as our wood work only in a flat sheen. I love it. It really helps it seem less like a basement.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I am super cheap. Sometimes I like to sugar coat it and say I am thrifty or frugal but lets be honest, I am cheap. Because I am so cheap, I hate wasting money. Good paint is dang expensive but there is a difference. Cheap paint has less acrylic in the can. As long as there is some acrylic in the paint they can call it acrylic paint. Acrylic is what makes paint dry hard and therefore cleanable. If you are going to repaint so often that your square footage is shrinking because of all the layers of paint it probably doesn't matter what paint or primer you use. But, if you want it to look good for a long time with out repainting every couple of years good paint is worth the investment. <br />
<br />
Carpet comes today. Yeah!<br />

Also, the busier I am the less pictures I take. I'll have to work on that.<br />
<br />
This is how my basement looks today. Thanks to our friend (Mr. K.) who knows a lot about paint. I'll walk you through the steps so far.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4jKOSwG1zYiEi9rt1k-QwgpjldJAClonXKLmPCtaSWDMaROwXtTUID_whGHVA1EaYUVjbhRPBBZBvDGbGKVZNvHLedh4JUGdLyrhDdvTUdWmO_lwNutJdFdHHpkYDI9pihhhpOF-OtoM/s1600/basement+paint+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4jKOSwG1zYiEi9rt1k-QwgpjldJAClonXKLmPCtaSWDMaROwXtTUID_whGHVA1EaYUVjbhRPBBZBvDGbGKVZNvHLedh4JUGdLyrhDdvTUdWmO_lwNutJdFdHHpkYDI9pihhhpOF-OtoM/s320/basement+paint+004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
First, we taped off everything we didn't want paint on like tile, windows etc.<br />
Mr. K has two sprayers that look like this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP6ymJ-y-V2rSTyG78JHpWEnMPCtrCAZQKd94NI_JshaeSThybFqVy_j4r8O_T5on8WRglQ9Y1YjYiEJoNL-WwjeclQv5WzlIhyA_7Ca6Dfyvk9lCxCS_61RxcuxlanUyeQBQ-7xvptdU/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP6ymJ-y-V2rSTyG78JHpWEnMPCtrCAZQKd94NI_JshaeSThybFqVy_j4r8O_T5on8WRglQ9Y1YjYiEJoNL-WwjeclQv5WzlIhyA_7Ca6Dfyvk9lCxCS_61RxcuxlanUyeQBQ-7xvptdU/s320/020.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
One is for oil based products and the other is for water based products. He first sprayed all the wood work with a lacquer under coater. This stuff in pricey, like $45 a gallon, his price, but it is a really awesome sealer. As soon as he finished with the under coater he primed everything. He used tinted primer where we were applying color.<br />
<br />
We waited for this to dry overnight. Then we lightly sanded everything. We used a pole sander for the walls and a sanding pad for the wood work and doors.<br />
<br />
Then we spackled and caulked all the dings and mistakes. and gave everything a good vacuum<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpOyNsrRmkJArPkaBithd4PyviHqFAD2KJWuJmbTipsbFwx9uI7R0Y0Wr6JyOR5O1duxblZVtZptCAn7epZeKn2LhP8ENLZ9l_KcYkvVVRmOgXxvf4Py8h9_9Nv4Z4kBAYjm6-0kFK4lE/s1600/basement+paint+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpOyNsrRmkJArPkaBithd4PyviHqFAD2KJWuJmbTipsbFwx9uI7R0Y0Wr6JyOR5O1duxblZVtZptCAn7epZeKn2LhP8ENLZ9l_KcYkvVVRmOgXxvf4Py8h9_9Nv4Z4kBAYjm6-0kFK4lE/s320/basement+paint+007.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then Mr. K. came back he brushed a little primer over all of our spackle patches and sprayed a final coat in all the woodwork.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwXh5_SFBy8deDB4ggm5dkoxdsQ8O6xwasow2yi7NaAmBjRiMoM65VzhVvWkY_UK4amY8pL4PaVRuhDx6Xi4F8FoFpmPLlQkhp2mDPJvBjPNZ1ZJ27neGhdcKl3SJbeR0QeAzvZ9BVadM/s1600/basement+paint+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwXh5_SFBy8deDB4ggm5dkoxdsQ8O6xwasow2yi7NaAmBjRiMoM65VzhVvWkY_UK4amY8pL4PaVRuhDx6Xi4F8FoFpmPLlQkhp2mDPJvBjPNZ1ZJ27neGhdcKl3SJbeR0QeAzvZ9BVadM/s320/basement+paint+006.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We are letting this cure for 48 hours before we begin taping it all off. My cute son and his scout troop went to sing patriotic songs at an assisted living center. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6epzNbYXBKk9ezvhmPUYWVKIHoOcvXyzkVShBquWo23wtMSgLuZ5DeTgdBnFRi07nAWmdv-ObQjKnqXZD8J2wEuN_VO6kwMAFFuIF5aIYhCY-G6qS34H-1ictcFoxmrCSz0PmDh5g8L4/s1600/Scouts+blog+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6epzNbYXBKk9ezvhmPUYWVKIHoOcvXyzkVShBquWo23wtMSgLuZ5DeTgdBnFRi07nAWmdv-ObQjKnqXZD8J2wEuN_VO6kwMAFFuIF5aIYhCY-G6qS34H-1ictcFoxmrCSz0PmDh5g8L4/s320/Scouts+blog+007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This cute little elderly lady was sitting in front of us. She was sporting some very beautiful butterfly barrettes. I am sure they are all the rage with the elderly women. The butterfly attached to the barrette with a coil so when she moved her head the butterfly moved kind of like a bobble head. The butterflies were about the same size as a moth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW5fi-h9C0ztXSRxbFjztPWITvAEfvISUk5iUMIEbZr25bAgpdaVuhzJz6o1GG1kpKwfP5yk9dZ_Wa-83kK2zq1wJt9Te0M5w9XW-ui2UVXblqeMLqvlPVn2UXqnkkmbf7hJclI_skYCY/s1600/Scouts+blog+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW5fi-h9C0ztXSRxbFjztPWITvAEfvISUk5iUMIEbZr25bAgpdaVuhzJz6o1GG1kpKwfP5yk9dZ_Wa-83kK2zq1wJt9Te0M5w9XW-ui2UVXblqeMLqvlPVn2UXqnkkmbf7hJclI_skYCY/s320/Scouts+blog+006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Well, my very helpful husband saw this insect hovering just above her head and thought it was real. So in the spirit of scouting and doing a good turn daily he decided to rescue this poor women and swat the moth away. Everyone around was watching as he realized it was attached and intentional. The surprised look on his face was priceless as he apologetically slumped back into his seat. I did the hunched over, trying to be quiet, while tears are running down your face laugh, all the way through God Bless America, and Yankee Doodle Dandy. <br />

The cute little lady didn't even flinchSticks and Stones Home Decorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04294542504387700641noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8708830877639013952.post-76009159301835268402010-09-27T08:57:00.000-07:002010-09-27T14:17:44.524-07:00Dollar spray paint dilemaMany of my blog friends are not a fan of the dollar spray paint and I understand why. But I must say for certain items I love the dollar spray paint. This is why, it is cheap enough you can keep several colors on hand, I am so impatient when I get the itch to paint something I hate having to shower, change out of my paint clothes and go to the store. I just want to get my milk create out of the garage head to the lawn and spray away.<br />
<br />
Here is a lamp from the DI<br />

<br />
We are finishing our basement. We hired out the framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall and then even though we know nothing about carpentry <strike>we </strike>I decided we should do the finish carpentry ourselves. What can I say I really wanted a nail gun. Thank goodness for YOUTUBE. You can learn how to do anything on YOUTUBE.<br />
<br />
We are finishing the basement in what we are calling three phases.<br />
Phase one includes paint and carpet and 2 daughters moved into rooms downstairs.<br />
Phase two includes picture frame wainscoting and bathroom<br />
Phase three includes built ins here <br />

We have a really good friend who knows a lot about everything coming to paint the basement next week. I'll pass along everything I learn from him. This may have been a very moving moment for someone not sitting next to my eight year old son. He said in a DUH, get a grip lady, kind of voice. "UH life isn't that hard, we can go out to eat, we have corn dogs, and we can play with Yo-Yo's." DUH</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

This same child makes the board often. One of the funniest things he's ever said was when he was about 4 years old. I was helping him out of the tub, just as he was stepping out of the tub he let an extremely loud toot. Although I don't know if you can call it a toot. Toot is kind of a cute word. this was the kind of gas passing that changes a boy into a man. He was beaming with pride as he said, "Wo, I just paid my taxes with that one." We still use this line when someone really does themselves proud in our house. <br />

As I have mentioned we are s-l-o-w-l-y finishing our basement. Which means we are going from 6 people in a 3 bedroom house to 6 people in a 5 bedroom house. AHHH, I can't wait for the extra space. So when my daughter had a birthday last week she got swag for her "new room". (Sorry no room to actually put the stuff in yet, but we are getting close.)<br />
<br />
My favorite project was the night stand. I bought this ugly night stand at the DI for $8.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBvAPJKAGnDtcEl4Gt9Z2VE6CIuzUb6BZWA5688WKjOfJ7gYp91jww8CErbdRb9qTMJo-D4kuQ_OUVkcFxJtVCxEzZfQqOHRnCjO8MFMACxGQsNPCydBrX4-4KZlGvhO4yJytJQ50DFW4/s1600/028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBvAPJKAGnDtcEl4Gt9Z2VE6CIuzUb6BZWA5688WKjOfJ7gYp91jww8CErbdRb9qTMJo-D4kuQ_OUVkcFxJtVCxEzZfQqOHRnCjO8MFMACxGQsNPCydBrX4-4KZlGvhO4yJytJQ50DFW4/s320/028.JPG" /></a></div><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
If I had more time to look I may have chosen something that only required spray painting but I needed something that day. I also have a storage requirement. Our bedrooms are small and so we can't just have things that look pretty they also have to pull their own weight and store something.<br />
<br />
I had this bead board kit, (given to me by the neighbor when she was moving, I knew I would eventually use it for something.) <br />
<br />
After removing horrible hardware I glued the bead board to the front of the door with wood glue.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSMquvou-Y-ubOzI3OTZ-VWkhDpZpfthPV3ezEB6jMALrk-eerBOqWbn6y0wYpyNiCA1drAU41Rwioi_9lFXt5tO1KpQE9ZjlyivTDoG_7pA5K2249zMsSJhf4MaFvrmHcoEUMq6itS0I/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSMquvou-Y-ubOzI3OTZ-VWkhDpZpfthPV3ezEB6jMALrk-eerBOqWbn6y0wYpyNiCA1drAU41Rwioi_9lFXt5tO1KpQE9ZjlyivTDoG_7pA5K2249zMsSJhf4MaFvrmHcoEUMq6itS0I/s320/022.JPG" /></a></div><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I then used leftover door casing to frame the door. I secured it with wood glue and finishing nails<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTAb77Q4J-1ka2uPFbglMjZMMWBy9wSONtbOewF0FTzEMFHMcenxmcKldzPxbwx5zYactnKjqZgh07KNi6-KUIo-Cck_tvhnvWT9mpDx87S0DPPDEYDiRCuMluLpnLCnHoXWnmm4XZWs/s1600/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTAb77Q4J-1ka2uPFbglMjZMMWBy9wSONtbOewF0FTzEMFHMcenxmcKldzPxbwx5zYactnKjqZgh07KNi6-KUIo-Cck_tvhnvWT9mpDx87S0DPPDEYDiRCuMluLpnLCnHoXWnmm4XZWs/s320/025.JPG" /></a></div><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I then puttied and caulked the gaps around the sides and nail holes.<br />
<br />
Then:<br />
Add primer (KILZ), I did have to lightly sand in between coats for a smooth finish<br />
<br />
Add paint (Rust-oleum Heirloom White)<br />
<br />
Add handle from the dumpster (see here <a href="http://sticksandstoneshomedecor.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-husband-got-me-new-knockers-from.html">http://sticksandstoneshomedecor.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-husband-got-me-new-knockers-from.html</a> )my daughter is kind of "earthy" so she wanted the stick handle.<br />

and Viola.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Total cost $15.00<br />
$ 8.00 ugly night stand<br />
$7.00 primer and paint <br />
bead board free<br />
handle free<br />
<br />
This night stand is laminate, I was worried it wouldn't paint well and that I would be donating it back to the DI but it painted great. I also love how it distressed. I never thought I would say this and in certain circles I may deny I ever did say this but "I am a fan if laminate"<br />
<br />
Also I bought this<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaF0W6gmIFoBw6s3r1sJUUKKkgqr4_LNFklHW3H7NYGqlhyZa6SyZjdWxkeRNWlu-AedDPNbZVYO16pZXa0nBG3ryT5wZ4i-tZSNN6qCteYZfbEzKyYyh2qZ1PlkhK0QkTaFK8U6Sym4/s1600/031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEaF0W6gmIFoBw6s3r1sJUUKKkgqr4_LNFklHW3H7NYGqlhyZa6SyZjdWxkeRNWlu-AedDPNbZVYO16pZXa0nBG3ryT5wZ4i-tZSNN6qCteYZfbEzKyYyh2qZ1PlkhK0QkTaFK8U6Sym4/s320/031.JPG" /></a></div><br />

I will never spray paint without one again. I have carpel tunnel and this helped a lot. No more embarrassing trigger finger syndrome,<br />
and it only cost $2.50.Sticks and Stones Home Decorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04294542504387700641noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8708830877639013952.post-7142017544384399622010-08-08T09:18:00.000-07:002010-08-08T09:27:21.503-07:00How to install door trim<div style="text-align: center;">MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE,<span style="color: red;"> BUT DON'T MEASURE AT ALL IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!!!!!</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">My husband and I do things differently. He is a math whiz and for him adding up all the numbers in his head just adds to the fun. (36 inches for the size of the door, + the reveal 1/8 inch x 2 + 2.5 inches for the casing oh but times that by two and add all that together. Then find the middle of the door, then find the middle of the casing, blah blah blah) For me, not so much. That's two minutes of my life I can never get back and that's if I do it right the first time which I won't. So this is how I do it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> First install header- cut one end of the header on a 45 degree angle like this.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDOBVvpRKKvXkJr292z5uMEiXnzp0KRWM4nGK-5dru6XYnS5Qym1BGLJuYc3myISjj36f_pHms92c7cvZUbf1zI8mXtFUIWMkNRIOq2O6WHcZLypbNCNWaeEX2wx94-gcBeFE9YmDpQbo/s1600/August+2010-blog+%26+cherry+hill+002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDOBVvpRKKvXkJr292z5uMEiXnzp0KRWM4nGK-5dru6XYnS5Qym1BGLJuYc3myISjj36f_pHms92c7cvZUbf1zI8mXtFUIWMkNRIOq2O6WHcZLypbNCNWaeEX2wx94-gcBeFE9YmDpQbo/s320/August+2010-blog+%26+cherry+hill+002.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Leave the other side longer than you need it, hold it in place and mark where you want the cut. I thought they were so cute. I am sure they are all over blog land but I hadn't seen them yet. They just tied water balloons using a square knot around the strap of the flip flop. She did get a couple of blisters (That's a lot of balloons, about fifty per strap)Sticks and Stones Home Decorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04294542504387700641noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8708830877639013952.post-69750838991586117612010-07-26T13:33:00.000-07:002010-07-26T15:33:25.119-07:00I'm still hereYou may think that I have given up on this blog thing, (no post for a long time.) But, I am still here, I just haven't been doing things that are blog worthy. Nobody wants to see picture after picture of me crouched over (ick) attaching what seems like miles of baseboards. But the baseboards in the basement are almost finished. YEA!!! Hopefully this week. Then on to some more fun projects. Like hanging my oldest daughters bed from the ceiling.Sticks and Stones Home Decorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04294542504387700641noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8708830877639013952.post-60986199517552754722010-07-08T12:45:00.000-07:002010-07-08T12:45:25.931-07:00I Hate Dust!!Well the dry wallers are back for the third attempt. The dry wall repair from the poo juice overflow cracked a little so they are back fixing that and creating a nuclear dust cloud in my house. But I can't complain too much, he is also toughing up all the little scratches we've put in the walls bringing in the 16ft baseboards. Thank You!<br />

It should have been tittled WINDOW -when ever I get around to it. I have had technical difficulties with my hard drive. Help Paul!<br />

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So I am not going to show you the chalk boards today we will go for a patriotic theme.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLM88oK6NitmuGqjREyXz3J88GGFjoIZS-vLwu1BzKWRk0Xv4QXRrSuXfE6t9PSLKwlzgJ0kAHJUhSnPYgDpYyKiGklBqYDRRpU6FFZQiLYUNQElBTNAv4pD7TcTrvUQ-ymDju7Gqx0dk/s1600/IMG_5736.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ru="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLM88oK6NitmuGqjREyXz3J88GGFjoIZS-vLwu1BzKWRk0Xv4QXRrSuXfE6t9PSLKwlzgJ0kAHJUhSnPYgDpYyKiGklBqYDRRpU6FFZQiLYUNQElBTNAv4pD7TcTrvUQ-ymDju7Gqx0dk/s320/IMG_5736.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">I bought the flag at the dollar store. It was made in China, has the wrong number of stripes and is a square instead of a rectangle. But, when I wrapped it around a piece of cardboard cut to fit the window it looked okay. I also tea stained the flag before I put it in the window. This only works with cotton flags. Many flags are nylon which makes them very weather resistant but it will not take the tea well. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I live in a great neighborhood. We live in a fun cul-de-sac with lots of kids which is why I have no intention of moving anytime soon. however, my house has very little architectural interest. Boring windows, doors, etc. Which may explain my obsession with old windows and doors. I have always believed in using the resources you have to get the results you want, so when a friend of mine, who has a window business, said he was doing a HUD renovation and had tons of old window I could have, I jumped on that.<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">My sister and I did a few boutiques and I sold most of what I had. We had to drive around back to the warehouse to get our moulding. While there we saw one of the employees looking in the dumpster at a really cool door knob attached to a board. Knowing my obsession for old doors (and anything having to do with old doors) my husband said, "if he doesn't take that do you want me to go ask him if we can have it?" UH YEAH. He had to go ask the "boss" but came back with these. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4res1OiSgQ_B3_fetzT4XnKrMRwZ1KVk6RoSNrXQ8Eh6QAT1n_e0KgPtUzsom8iIk0IOHdMADqm2TZbHhV7FPnKqArB5XNSWe3mi1V7BuwdoZKUO2UDAJiU0k9mL9t1ACQ_g_TjovYGk/s1600/IMG_5722.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" qu="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4res1OiSgQ_B3_fetzT4XnKrMRwZ1KVk6RoSNrXQ8Eh6QAT1n_e0KgPtUzsom8iIk0IOHdMADqm2TZbHhV7FPnKqArB5XNSWe3mi1V7BuwdoZKUO2UDAJiU0k9mL9t1ACQ_g_TjovYGk/s320/IMG_5722.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
